Why Roots of Hijrah?
Roots of Hijrah
From a personal journey to a mission of knowledge, faith, and renewal.
When leaving becomes a return to Allah
Hijrah is more than leaving a homeland, crossing borders, or beginning life in a foreign country. It can become a journey of faith, a search for truth, and a return to the purpose for which we were created.
Roots of Hijrah was born from a personal journey: my hijrah to Malaysia, fleeing to Allah. It is a story of displacement, hope, reflection, and the determination to transform personal trials into a meaningful mission.
My journey is not presented as a story of arrival, but as a continuing search for what gives life its true direction: faith, knowledge, purpose, and service to others.
I am a Tunisian storyteller, author, filmmaker, and researcher in Maqāṣid al-Dīn. My background brings together Islamic knowledge, Qur'anic storytelling, the Prophetic Sīrah, philosophy, law, literature, filmmaking, and artificial intelligence. These fields may appear different, but they converge around one central question: how can knowledge help us understand our religion more deeply and live its message more faithfully?
Roots of Hijrah is where these paths meet.
From personal hijrah to the hijrah of knowledge
My personal journey has given a deeper meaning to the work I pursue. Leaving one place can lead us to reconsider not only where we live, but also what we live for. It can reveal forgotten priorities, challenge familiar assumptions, and open the way to new responsibilities.
This blog therefore extends beyond my personal experience. It explores hijrah as a human and spiritual experience, while reflecting on the challenges facing Muslims in preserving their faith, understanding their religion, and transmitting its knowledge to future generations.
Through stories, reflections, research, and projects, I hope to contribute to a journey that begins with the individual and reaches the wider Ummah.
Knowledge, storytelling, and the revival of understanding
My work seeks to bring Islamic knowledge closer to people through accessible, meaningful, and engaging approaches.
Maqāṣid al-Dīn: Rediscovering the purpose of religion
Exploring the purposes of religion as a framework for understanding Islam in its depth and coherence, with particular attention to spiritual purification, the Prophetic guidance, and the relationship between worship and the social order.
Revive Knowledge: Bringing Islamic heritage to life
Reviving knowledge through stories, books, historical narratives, and educational initiatives that help young people and adults reconnect with the richness of Islamic history and discover its lessons.
Storytelling and media: Making knowledge meaningful
Using writing, filmmaking, documentary storytelling, and digital media to communicate ideas, preserve experiences, and make valuable knowledge accessible to wider audiences.
Professional projects and technology: Serving people through knowledge
Exploring how professional experience, strategic thinking, and artificial intelligence can support meaningful initiatives, strengthen knowledge-sharing, and create practical solutions in service of people and communities.
Why Roots of Hijrah?
The roots of a tree are hidden, yet they determine its stability, nourishment, and growth. In the same way, the roots of a person's journey are often invisible: faith, convictions, experiences, knowledge, and the search for meaning.
A journey becomes more than movement when it reconnects us with those roots.
Through Roots of Hijrah, I hope to share personal reflections, stories of people whose lives have been shaped by hijrah, insights into Islamic knowledge, and the projects through which I seek to turn ideas into service.
This is also an invitation to rediscover the deeper meaning of hijrah: leaving behind what distances us from Allah, returning to what brings us closer to Him, and making every new beginning an opportunity for growth and contribution.
Roots of Hijrah is not simply about where we come from or where we go. It is about what we carry within us, what we seek, and what we leave behind for others.
May every journey bring us closer to Allah, every story revive forgotten knowledge, and every new beginning become a source of benefit for the Ummah.
